如果要用D这种结构的话，也应该是

Creating the images, and (constructing and decorating the temples) account for much of the local artisans’ creative energy.

所以 OG 的解释 The and also phrase is awkwardlyset apart from the main claim of the sentence— which is that all three tasksconsumed much of the artisans’ energy.
