Dear Fran, Where did you decide to go? In my opinion, both are great schools! Since I probably go to HEC, I will try to share some info about HEC. Below is a letter from one senior in this Janaury, hope it helps. About job placement: "The job situation is always a tough issue, but of course very important. As I always like starting on a bright note, it is possible to get a job... I'm Canadian (no EU passport) and my girlfriend is Brasilian (again, no EU passport) and we both have jobs in England. Mine is with Shell and hers is with Johnson and Johnson, which is pretty indicative, i.e. bigger multinationals will be much more willing to go through the headache of the visa sponsorship. As far as jobs in general, it is true that the class in general is having a hard time, I would estimate from what I've heard that about 30% have signed, and about 65% have not signed, but have had or are having numerous interviews. As you said, you're personal situation will dictate a lot about your job. I for example was making less than 30,000 euros before I started my MBA, so I was very flexible in my job search. Others that were already making 70k plus are going to take a lot longer as they're obviously a lot more picky. I didn't personally know that France is the worst, but just talking to different people it seems that the whole western economy is pretty down. Having said that, as you know things are picking up... Other things to keep in mind is that LBS is a great school, and you'll probably have a better paid job graduating from there. At the same time, you'll be 2 or 3 times as much in debt and the program is 2 years (i think). INSEAD also has a stronger alumni network outside of France, but there again you're competing with 700 graduates in your class. As far as the job search, HEC is awesome. There are lots of forums and businesses coming to the school all the time. Futhermore the career people are very helpful, and quite available for 1 on 1 consultation, help, CV writing, etc. etc. My only advice is that wherever you go 1. Start the job search early (and the internship search if applicable)... LIKE 6 TO 10 MONTHS EARLY!\ 2. Don't forget to build your network. Talk to people (especially presenters). Get their busines cards. Write Alumni using the alumni network, as for lunches, get to know you coffee's etc... that shit works better than you might imagine. Anyhow, that's my 2 cents for today.
