"is" is absent here.

就是觉得这个比较和通常的比较有些不同，因为原来的句子中
只有一个名词：
wealthier, better-educated, and more polished people，难道需要改变句子的结构才能理解吗？

你不用考虑有多少形容词在前面，只要考虑谁与谁比。这里是People 与他相比。就行了。一般情况下，在than 后会出现比较的第二项。
