a scrub jay这个动物记性很好，哪里搞了个啥食物都记得很清楚 - (researchers have discovered) 是插入语。 - 所以该动物对于某些存了太久的（他自己存的）已经肯定腐烂的食物，就懒得去挖掘出来了。
if (the treat has been) stored long enough. stored是过去分词。treat 是指的他存起来的食物，是名词。

不明白意思，求救！
