请问这里“ the site of an ancient civilization that flourished at the same time as the civilizations”中“that”是不是可以去掉呢？小弟觉得应该是可以去掉的，但是因为这里要强调是过去发生的事，所以用从句要比用后置定语更清楚，就用了从句表达，不知是这样吗？还请NN指点呀~

这种情况的定语从句一般不换成后置定语的。

一般用来强调说明某个名词的，咱们就用定语从句，举例：

He is the man who i am looking for.

这题主要就是用说明 an ancient civilization的，用定语从句比较合适。

而后置定语一般是插入在一个完整的主谓结构中，用来修饰一下主语。

例如，The man dressed a blue shirt is my father.

这里的that是在后面从句中作主语的, 不能省.

另外, 省略之后, flourished变成过去分词短语, 修饰civilization, 这里就变成被动的含义了. civilization不会被flourish.

后置定语一定只修饰主语吗？宾语行不行啊？
