这个句子本身是正确的，可是笨笨的LZ不理解什么时候在as 引导比较句子成分的时候需要或者不需要省略动词did, were之类。

as:　　You know as much about that as I do. 对这事你

得和我一样多。
　　That’s not so simple as it sounds. 那事并不像听起来那么简单。
以上2句子就没有省略动词嘛!!!!!

难道以下两种情况不可以么
1. ancient civilization that flourished at the same time
as did the civilizations in the Nile Delta and the river
valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates.
2. ancient civilization that flourished at the same time
as the civilizations in the Nile Delta and the river
valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates did.

似乎省不省略是看是否会引起歧义，如果省略不会引起歧义，那么就可以省掉，简洁一些，如果省略之后引起了歧义，那么是不应该省略掉的
比如你的you know as much about that as I do, 如果这里省略掉了do，就变成了你知道的知识比我的人多，这个没办法比的么
第二句也一样的，自己研究一下
但是题目里的话ancient civilization that flourished at the same time
as the civilizations （did） in the Nile Delta and the river
valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates. 省略点不会引起歧义，那么就可以省了

个人感觉，大家讨论，不知道我说的对不对

回答楼主的问题

第一个长句子：the same as 是固定用法；另外 sth flourished , 这是系表结构，这种结构的比较，通常谓语是可省的

你后面列觉的句子，第一个也是系表结构，因此可以省；
第二个句子，it sounds前面省略了what；如果省略了，语义不对

最后两个，你改写的句子，加did不好，因为可以省略，GMAT讲求简单，既然可以省，为何不省

我给你举个例子吧：
I am taller than you. 主系表结构
I eat more apple than you do. 主谓宾结构

你看看，这两个句子，都是比较的主语，省与不省是不是都很清楚呢？

看到D和E的解释是：
Plural pronoun those cannot refer to the singular civilization and thus lacks a referent; did is awkward and unnecessary.
E Plural pronoun those cannot refer to the singular civilization and thus lacks a referent; were is awkward and unnecessary.
就是说这个谓词是必须省略的，否则会awkward. unnecessary好像言外之意没有这个谓词意思不变。
估计是习惯用法
at the same time as XX（名词）.

再进一步研究as的用法，如果不省略应该是
that flurished at the same time as the civilizations in the Nile Delta and the river valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates were in.
这里对比的应该是time,而不是flurished. 也就是说它们是同时期的，但是后面的civilizations 并不一定就是flurished. 即不是flurished at the same time as civilizations ... flurished , 如果是的话 flurished at the same time as civilizaitions ...did. 表示后面的civilizations 也flurished了。

这里的as是关系代词的用法，the same 是修饰先行词time的。
the same后面可以接定语从句,如果后面的定语从句是省略的情况,则用as来引导,即the same...as；
as引导定语从句的用法有兴趣的可以补充。
