         这个题目我选C,这是GWD的题目???

         如果E是which is now commonly called...还可能可以接受,那个it和which意思重复了

         过去分词表被动,没什么不可以啊!!

    A中的THEY指代不清楚, B 太冗长, D 的并列结构不成立, E 多了IT.

    只有C最清晰 也最准确

    Actually I choose B;

    My reason as following:

    (1)Refer t

    42

in addition to being china’s first administrators , in the sense that they developed a coherent bureaucracy for their empire , the first literate culture in east asia were the shang, and they were well known for crafting ornate bronze ritual vessels

    A.     the first literate culture in east asia were the shang, and they were well known for crafting

  • the first literate culture in east asia were the shang, well known as the crafters of

  • C.     the shang , as the first literate culture in east asia, is well known for its crafting

  • the shang were the first literate culture in east asia and are well known as the crafters of

  • the shang were the first literate culture in east asia and well known for its crafted

  • Above sentence clearly notes that "the + noun" can represent a group of people.

(2): there are 2 examples in OG

main sentence, subordinate sentence, participle phrase.  OG clearly states that such participle phrase will cause modifying ambiguity.

    (3) another OG example: local time, determined..differing; OG regards the "determined" as adjective phrase, not participle phrase;

    (4) I look up "call" at Longman dictionary; it denotes that "called" is participle form, and does not note that "called" can be used as adjective.

    My puzzlement:

A practice test problem: logging, removing....(it denotes that sentence, removing) "removing" can modify the antedent sentence or the last noun in the sentence. I do not dare to choose such structure (main sentence, subordinate sentence, participle phrase;   sentence, participle phrase)

Who can instruct me how to distinguish between ambiguous modifier and clear modifier?

    Thanks in advance....

    To be discussed...

    weiyu:http://forum.chasedream.com/dispbbs.asp?BoardID=23&replyID=463415&id=53590&skin=0 看看蓝色泡泡的解释。

The ancient Anasazi harvested such native desert vegetation as the purple-flowered bee plant, what they now commonly call wild spinach in northern Arizona and other parts of the southwestern United States.

    1. what they now commonly call
    2. a plant that they now commonly call ----〉不可能they now(ancient people now do sth?)
    3. now commonly called
    4. and is mow commonly called -----〉ancient people is called? Rediculous.
    5. which it is now commonly called--->it 多余。

I don't think choice B is the right answer because "they" has no logical referent. It's true that ancient Anasazi can be regarded as a collective noun and thus use they as a pronoun, however, it is unlikely that the same ancient Anasazi now call the plant wild spinard in two regions.

       B中的they无逻辑指代对象啊

如果指代The ancient Anasazi 的话,那a plant that they now commonly call翻译出来就是:古代A人现在一般喊这种植物叫作wild spinach 。。。

       怎么都不对啊

       逻辑意思优先嘛,不应该先考虑形式的问题,C没有什么不对的地方啊,过去分词在句末,修饰前面的名词plant

    此题我选c。这个句子里面they没有指代对象,所以必须排除。即使如同南瓜妹妹说的是指一群人,要知道在英语里面这代整体的一群人通常是用单数指代的。

The ancient Anasazi harvested such native desert vegetation as the purple-flowered bee plant, now commonly called wild spinach in northern Arizona and other parts of the southwestern United States.

    这句话如果没有逗号,是不是大家就都没有异议了呢。

The ancient Anasazi harvested such native desert vegetation as the purple-flowered bee plant now commonly called ld spinach in northern Arizona and other parts of the southwestern United States.

    但是如果这题变成,

The ancient Anasazi harvested such native desert vegetation as the purple-flowered bee plant, a plant that people commonly call wild spinach in northern Arizona and other parts of the southwestern United States.

    就更好了。
