XDF解释：这是as 的特殊用法——as 代替前面主句，后面加上借此短语或者when从句。
疑惑：这个用法没见过，也不太明白想要表达的意思。

疑惑：解析说主句主语the chain of retail stores核心词是the chain，表示单数概念，所以后面代词用its不用their。
但是我认为suppliers' operations的逻辑主语应该是retail stores，因为供应商supplier对应的不应该是零售商retail stores吗？难道是供应链的供应者？实在不明白。

1，as的问题看字典。
[pron.]如(情形或事实所表示)；这一点，这一事实，那一情况

2，中心词? which是主语啊

3，这里时态改变是因为没有其他更好的选项了。proved应该是被动，主语不同时，仅仅省略was的做法没见过。语意上我也没有发现很明显的线索。

4，我也中枪了。或许its merchandise这里可以给些提示。

1. as when 可以用于举例说明。

2. which是定语从句，which是主语，也就是这个从句的中心词。

3. and在这里是两个独立句子的连接，不是作为绝对的并列形式，这点要在句意上搞清楚。

4. 要注意和 its merchandis 相对应。

我的第二个问题的意思可能没有表达清楚我的意思是在最高级用法中 sth is the most+adj最高级，后面可以不加名词吗？比如说the sun is the largest，这样对吗，还是后面必须加一个名词？

第三个题里面once从句的主句是逗号后面的部分吗？如果是，那 its superiority over the horse had been proved这个句子后面没有连词就直接加一个句子为什么是对的呢？恕我愚钝~~~~(>_<)~~~~

1）最高的问题我只能上百度百科了：
形容词最高级修饰作表语或介词宾语的名词、代词时，被修饰的词往往省略．
He is the tallest(boy) in his class．

2）
Once the economic and social usefullness of the motor car was determined and (once) its superiority over the horse had been proved, much of the early hostility to it in rural regions disappeared.

这句只能这样理解的吧。

谢谢啊！明白了好多！第二个只能像你那样解释了，但我又觉得如果像你那样说前半句用had been determined和后面更一致一些。。。好吧我太钻牛角尖了，不过话说，我那天在og上确实看见一句话类似这种两句主语不同但是第二句只把系动词省略了的，只不过一时找不到了，等我找到了给你看哈！

战友我明白第四个了，因为the chain of retail stores表示连锁店，chain不是我以为的那个意思，这样就明白为什么用its啦，O(∩_∩)O哈哈~

这道题目的正确答案是C，白勇书上答案是错的！

好几个国外网站上都说OA是C。
1. C的省略：并列句第二句的Be动词省略，完全正确；
2. superior to是固定搭配，没有superior over的用法。
