In the 1980’s the rate of increase of the minority population of the United States was nearly twice as fast as the 1970’s.
(A) twice as fast as
(B) twice as fast as it was in
(C) twice what it was in (C)
(D) two times faster than that of
(E) two times greater than

在网上查解释，说rate 是名词，不能和as fast as 搭配，但是fast也可以做形容词啊，修饰rate

所以B和D的错误在哪里呢

并不是词性不能搭配的问题，而是rate只能用大小来评判而不是快慢哦，rate的增长可以说快慢；这个和number也是同理的

rate速度，在中文里说速度快没问题，但在英文里，rate只能用大小来形容（因为它表示数字，是一个number）

the rate of X is as fast as that of Y. (wrong)
the rate of X is as great as that of Y . (correct)

类似的，height 不能同 tall 来修饰／
