As technologies and the demand for certain services change, many workers will lose their jobs. The responsibility for those people to adjust to such change should belong to the individual worker, not to government or to business.
Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your views with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.
The world is developing so fast, along with the advances in technologies and different demand for services. Because of the automation or new operations, many workers, especially those whose skills and experiences are out of date may face the risk of losing their jobs. Who is responsible for them- the government, the business or the workers themselves? For my part, the government and the business take more responsibilities.
The main reason for my view is that, the change of technologies and services benefit the business and the government directly. Workers are the human capital to enhance the business competency by using the advanced technologies or providing competitive services according to the company's requirements. These changes are out of the workers' control. Proper measures must be taken by business or government to help the employees to adjust to such changes. For example, Business can provide good training, give workers time to get prepared for the changed work. Government should guide the business correctly to be responsible for workers. At least, workers must be given enough help and resources to promote or change themselves.
Another reason is that, it is hard for workers to adjust to such changes, because some technologies supersede the employees' work. It is indisputable the fact that, more and more advanced technologies especially the automations have taken the place of human works. Such technology progresses saved the costs for businesses and government, but on the sacrifices of people losing their jobs. It brought serious affects to these workers' lives. So it is unreasonable to equate these kinds of layoffs with workers' incompetency to adjust to the changes.
Some people may claim that workers must keep studying new knowledge and skills to become more competitive. They think people should be responsible for themselves and adjust to new situations. But, the truth is that the number of workers that business need is decreasing based on these new technologies in all. In the opposite, government should encourage business to create more job opportunities, and give more valuable training and education on the base of analysis for future development.
In sum, government and business must be responsible for the workers. For the society's future development, employees are the most valuable resources. So helping them to promote in order to adjust to the changes is meaningful. |
