I am on the waitlist and I got the specific feedback as below, shall I just send an email to say my backup plan? Any more creative ideas to get me off the list?
The Admissions Committee’s decision to place you on the waitlist was influenced by a combination of factors and how you compare with the rest of the applicant pool. Our main concern were your post-MBA goals. Your essays and interview did not address the question of the challenges of finding a marketing management position in the photography industry in the US and how you will overcome those challenges. Is there a plan B if you cannot find a job in the US? You may send me an email with your response.
However, please keep in mind that waitlisted applicants will be considered as space in the program becomes available. We will continue to reevaluate candidates on the waitlist till June. We appreciate your patience during this time.
A little background of myself: I used to work in marketing positions in companies for 3 years, now I'm running a photo studio of my own, my short term career goal in my essay was to work in the photo industry in the US after graduation. Maybe the adcom thinks it too unrealistic for an international student.
they might well think your goal is a little bit "too specific" which constrains your addressable market upon graduation. How big is the photo industry in US? How many [new] positions it can offer every year (if not a net decrease as I'm not sure this is a growing industry in US)?
One possible solution is that you still focus on your marketing function but broaden the target industry and geography. You can always argue the marketing knowhow you picked in such a job can benefit your long-term career goal no matter it's marketing photo or marketing.. i don't know... other fmcg?
