一般英语里面应该没有问题。

但是，如果放在GMAT里面，还是错误。通过there be基本上可以宣布其死刑。

所以学习OG在于学习ETS的思路.

为什么通过there be就可以排除呢？如何判断的呢？求教

ETS不喜欢用there be句型。一般来说，there be句型表客观存在，且出现there be句型，多和be的单复数形式有关系，是利用be的单复数形式来说明后面名词的单复数。

本题即使there be没有问题也不对。ETS非常讲究对称，既然前面用了when it is present，后面就不会用there be ，必然是用when it is not （present）来和前面对应。

这里有一个新问题

我当时选了E.

考虑的正如携隐说的对称,我想的是detect sth.(n.)后面对称应该是indicate sth.(n.)

所以C中的indicate sth.对应后面的indicate that+从句,不就不对称了吗?

请教

我又想了想,这里的indicate是不是和前面的fail是对应的,而不是和detect对应的?这样的话好像就可以解释了.

og里面好像还有一个题目，也是这种，句子结构上面是对称的，但是语法形式不对称，好像是partly because.....partly that is....之类的，既不清楚了，反正也能说明这种对称也是可以的

这里起最主要作用的还是it is not，仅凭这一点就可以判定了
