答案是C。感觉前面的their是说那些 owners of condominium apartments，而后面的them是说owners of cooperative apartments。不是指代同一个对象啊？难道代词指代的对象，只要是张德一样就可以啦（都是owners)？不要管具体的逻辑意思？

还有另一个问题：在对称中，一定要复数对应复数吗？D为什么错？用a owner对应owners不行吗？还有，用定冠词the为什么不行？为什么要改成their？

记得GEMJ也曾经讨论过这个问题，他们的答案是在同一句子中物主代词和人称代词是可以指向不同的。

在总结中我有一个感觉：ETS出题真的是八股到家，如果在可能的情况做到绝对平衡对称，就一定不要对相对的平衡!! 有如此题：(C) Whereas owners of condominium apartments have free and clear title to their dwellings 中的owners...have...to...与主句的owners...have...in...单复一致，是非常完美的对称形式。an owner其实也没有语法错误，只是不合ETS的BT八股要求而已。在这种BT的严格要求下，有时在对称中多一词少一词就可以排除该选项！

另外，对于携隐JJ提出的为什么不用the而用their，我的一点个人想法是：the是特指前面出现过的具体dwelling,但这里并没有如此的指代，因此要改为their。就象我们在主句owners of cooperative apartments have shares in a corporation that owns a building and leases apartments to them.中找不到the特指一样。

关于the和their的问题，我同意你的看法。关于人称代词和物主代词可以指代不同的东东，这个讨论我倒是没有看到过。我想这个规律的依据，可能是所有格的修饰部分，并不作为句子的核心词吧。就好像代词优先指代主宾语，最后才可能指代所有格中的of部分或’s之前的部分。这里their可能被视为是所有格的非核心词吧！

携隐JJ想得好深入啊！佩服！偶只是拿来而已，根本都没细想。

their和them的解释好像没有定论，这题能否从另一个角度解释：

1. but/while/whereas所连的从句不可随意改变，因为会改变强调中心，可排除BDE.

2. A错误不是因为复数应该和复数平行，而是the owner of a condominium apartment 逻辑错误，a condominium apartment 的owner应该是多个，是复数，不是单数，故A错。
