A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near your community. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community. Do you support or oppose the factory?

Oppose.

1. environmental problems;

2. traffic jam.

3. more opening for the job hunters, enhance the development of local economy.

I definitely oppose the erection of a large factory near our community, for the potential environmental problems as well as the traffic jams it may lead to.

To build a large factory would without question, more or less, devastate the existing unspoiled environment and severely break the serenity of the current community, which are the two cardinal contributing factors for most of the locals choose to live here. Although some arguments may be put forward that the modern techniques, such as water and air sterilization system, might well cope with the concerned environmental pollution problem, I would say the risk is still there and could never be neglected. Besides, the present community is such a quiet place that we local dwellers could enjoy the birds singing in the new morning, do some reading in the community park as well. Nevertheless, whenever the large factory is built, nothing would continue but all-around noise. Thus, I guess life would get inconvenient if a large factory is built.

A second concern about the latent side effect of building a large factory in our community is the traffic jam. We live in a large community which could accommodate hundreds of residents, and the traffic goes smoothly on the main road around. But if a large factory is constructed, things would change. A newly-built factory means a new round of recruitment, then more employees. As a rule, a large factory may hold at least hundreds of workers, accompanied of which is an underlying traffic problem in rush hours, a terrible threat to our daily commutes. So an efficient daily life requires a smooth traffic, no option for a large factory nearby.

To some extent, a new factory would bring new openings for local job hunters and enhance the development of the local economy. However, the sacrifice may highly go beyond the success, if it is built near the community. In contrast, in the event that it is constructed a distance away from the community, the situation will be more optimistic. Therefore, I fully protest a new large factory to be built near our community.
