received offers from 5 schools. Wake Forest U. awarded 60% tuition. U. of Georgia offered 100% tuition + stipend. Rice, my favorite school(95% placement within 3 months, No.1 in all top business schools) just offered a seat. The 2 year budget of Rice is a killing number $100,000.

Totally understand the meaning of the investment of 2 years and personal fund, but it's tough to make a decision like this bear the reputation and job placement in mind. which direction will you head for? Cowboy TX or shiny GA?

I think you are also misled by the article posted here and there. Rice's newest data of placement rate within 3 months is 76%... so, a good research is really necessary for us...

my data is 2002 usnews & world report. Noticed the recent unpleasant placement trend. expecially 2003. Also understand the reason Rice and other conservative biz schools getting reluctant to accept internation students. U. Iowa offered 40% seats to international applicants last year, that ratio will fall to under maybe 30% this year as schools feel its too difficult to place the graduates and the reviews from graduates count a lot on rankings.

I consider Rice reserves itself a seat among the top business schools becuase of its reputation in fainance area and its decent starting salary, which is absolutely better than that of most top 20s. Sure, because of its small size( there are only some 4 thousand undergraduate and graduate students all together in Rice, the noble school as Stanford in CA. ) and somehow arrogance toward the world outside TX, its ranking never goes up into top 20s. But the fact is, Rice graduates can easily earn a lot more than graduates from most other business schools that run in front of it on many rankings. This is the effect of the magic of its location and the reputation of its finance program. What do we expect after investing years and tons of money?

By the way, I am not a bullfrog with outstanding GMAT and GPA, just like to find myself a shortest route to land the dream--easy life in the states. So, I didn't apply for any top 20 schools. That's the main reason I got my offers, though not from top schools, much earlier than ordinary applicants. My GMAT is 700 GPA 3.2. Tofel 637 10 w/e in muitinational currently working in the states.
