International students with the F-1 student visa cannot work off campus, with the exception of an internship for academic credit. The F-1 visa can be extended after graduation for up to one year of Optional Practical Training.
A campus job is a possibility, and available jobs are usually posted on the Student Employment website by the beginning of October.
The time for international students to complete the Master of Science degrees, which is listed on the I-20 Form, is 18 months and you will need to take a minimum of three courses each in the fall and spring terms to be in compliance with the F-1 student visa. MSA students who pursue and secure an internship will usually be for the summer.
Regarding your question about placement, the Graduate Center for Career Services doesn’t break down data for domestic and international students, but of the students who responded to the Class of 2008 Employment Survey who were seeking a job, 97% were employed by 3 months after graduation (This includes October 2007; February 2008, and May 2008 graduates). The median salary of the Class of 2008 MSA graduates who had one year or less of relevant work experience prior to receiving their MSA degree is $57,500.00.
