before Austalia was Australia固定用法, 在澳大利亚被发现之前,很多英国人认为世界的另一端是灰暗的不可想象的地方,是世界的终点.

做了很多题发现GMAT有种典型错误选项就是 It is adj/n改成It is what it is adj/n

E有没有改变句意?

E 的问题，一是had been know这个过去完成时用得很莫名，原句里后面用was considered表示前面应该也是一般过去时。

第二它也太罗嗦了，直接可以说Australia was known as......
