advice needed: 申请定位

target concentration: Marketing PhD

Background:

PKU  Computer Science   BS    GPA: 3.1

(2 CS journal papers, 1 AI Patent)

John Hopkins U  Computer Science  MS    GPA: 3.5

(1 IEEE paper)

U of Connecticut   Marketing MBA   GPA: 4.0

U of Connecticut   Economics MS    GPA: 4.0

(1 paper submitted to Journal of Marketing Research, 1 Marketing conference paper accepted)

GMAT: 760

Can I try top 30 universities? Can I use schools like Vanderbilt, Maryland, Florida as backups? Or they are too good and I should find some other schools?

Thanks!

Although ur background looks good, There is a guy whose background is quite same as you also apply for mkt phd last year, but he end up nothing in the application. I am not discouraging u to apply , but u also need to diversify ur school selection portfolio. Do not save application fee at this important time in your career.
Also, get some strong recommendation letters from your coauthor or senior professors in your area. It will help you a lot defintely.

By the way, I think most school's deadline ended, do you apply for the 2010 semester?
Best luck!

your background might be overqualified for marketing.  and your recom's circles really count, especially in marketing.
btw,what is your motivation?

sometimes I have the feeling that US masters or even phd are 4.0 oriented,  just joking.

marketing is a tricky field.

You can see anykind of people in the Phd Program.

From extremely smart new graduate young students to old executives with lousy score history.

Haha,,, backgrounds are not so important, the key is whether you really want to do it!

I think the quantitative marketing programs prefer the guys with strong background in statistics but not CS.
