我感觉的这个例子不行。
至少形式就不一致。the bigger ,the better，前后2部分的都是BE动词的表语。而这个题目里，the more..做副词，the greater 是形容词。

橙子或者大N们，能把这种语言现象解释的更详细点？

i have read your connection. however, it is still not clear. as terry_awesome said, the example illustrated above shows the ommision of the same structures. but in OG7, there are 2 different ones.

the more i talk to her, the more i like her.
the smaller the car is, the better

just my intuition

张道真的说法 “the+比较级，the+比较级”结构，表示“越是……越是”：
The（在这里既作副词又作连词）larger the house is，the（作副词）more expensive it is．（房子越大越贵。）

451 “（主语+动词）＋the+比较级”结构中的主语及动词有时可省略：

牛津的说法:要表达两个事物彼此相应增长时可用the+比较级…the+ 比较级这种结构：
House Agent：Do you want a big house？
Ann：Yes，the bigger the better．
Tom：But the smaller it is，the less it will cost us to heat．
狂搜索了一阵,的确没有发现两个部分所对应的谓语动词不同时可以省略的情况.
橙子的确不是治学严谨的人,误导大家了,对不起.

至少省略句尾的be动词没有引起歧义
这个结构应该和than的比较结构比较相似吧
