I just finished my first year law school and right now am working with a large law firm which sort of gives me a flavor of what my future life would be (large law firms usually wine and dine you when you are a summer but work you to death when you become an associate). One, be prepared to work for 60-70 hours a week to reach 1900 or higher billable hours per year. Two,different firms do have disparate cultures, so you could still have a work life balance if you pick the right firm. Three, you have to keep the balance yourself. Many partners and associates have families and children. They are normal people. Four, prioritize. You have to lose to gain. Think it through, make a decision and never look back. From my point of view, it is a privilege to be a lawyer. Welcome to the legal world!
lawyer mm, it's great to hear about your experience and opinions as someone on the inside. from what I know it's quite challenging to find a biglaw summer position during the 1L summer. would you mind sharing what helped you successfully got there? that would be much appreciated!
