Some people hold the opinion that it is of no use to learn about the past, it may seem to be reasonable at the first glance, because past is away from us. While a careful investigation shows that they fail to recognize much value the past contributes to our nowadays life. Learning about the past is of great importance to our technology progress, economics development, and the peaceful life we enjoy everyday.

The technology, for the most part, bases on what has been created in the past. Whatever new technology we create, we have learnt a lot from our accentors. Without knowledge accumulated, we have to find everything starting from scratch. Just as Newton declared that because he stood on giants’ shoulders, thus he was able to see further than his peers. How could he, not learn from what his predecessors had discovered, bring up such a great contribution to the world? And, without his great contribution in physics such as the gravitational force, how can we be able to manufacture spaceship to transmit satellite into the outer space?

The economics development owes much to what happens to the past. From previous experiences, we can know what is suitable for us to make economics growing faster, as we have tried many ways and know made a comparatively preferable choice. When looking back the past thirty years, China knows that it has choose a wise way to develop its economics and people enjoy much benefit from economics growth. If we do not learn what has happened in the past, we may unable to know which way should be chosen, and people in China may still live in poverty and starvation.

The more we learn from the past, the more we appreciate the peaceful life we enjoy. With no concept about the hard time we have endured, we may forget the mistakes we have made. We hold anniversary activities in the memory of World War II to remind us that we should not invade other people in other countries. If we forget what has occurred, we will be less aware the pleasant life we live.

Owing so many to the past, how can we ignore the past and claim that learning from past has no value? Past should be forget, rather, we should pay great energy to the past and get benefit from it, only in this way can we enjoy our life better and make progress more rapidly with less crooked road.
