说B,C,E选项nonsensically suggests that the people are used by the equpment.

peolpe tend to overestimate the amount ...and underestimate it when...

it 为什么指代people？不指代the amount ？

比如B：people tend to overestimate the amount of ... and underestimate it when used by unobtrusive equipment

“A do sth. when used by”结构，uesd by的主语必须是与主句主语一致的，默认为省略了主句主语

所以B补全就是：people tend to overestimate the amount of ... and underestimate it when people are used by unobtrusive equipment

那显然逻辑上就不对了。

而且it在B中指整个“the amount of energy used by equipment, such as lights, that are visible and must be turned on and off ”，显然也是不对的。
