斗胆把我写的一篇发上来供大家讨论,不知道这样写算不算跑题,我也不太明白文章的重点是应该focus在citizens’ primary responsibility上还是在obey the laws上。写的很烂,大家轻拍~~
I partly agree with the statement above that the primary responsibility of citizen is to obey their nation's civil and criminal laws, however, we should also notice that all the things are changing as the time changes, the civil and criminal laws are not exception, so the civil and criminal laws in the past may not suitable for the present situation, then it is wrong and even ridiculous for citizens to continue to obey the out-dated laws. On one hand, it is important for citizens to obey the nation's civil and criminal laws since it could maintain a nation's stability and prosperity. Imagine that in a country almost all of the citizens do not obey their nation's civil and criminal laws, then there must be many collision and big disorder in the country, from the theft to abduct, from corruption to criminal, many social problems would come to the country. No one could control the awkward situation unless the citizens could obey the country's civil and criminal laws. So the primary responsibility of the citizens is to obey their nation's civil and criminal laws. On the other hand, based on the reason I talked in the first paragraph, the citizens could not always obey the laws if some social situation has changed and the laws can not adapt to the new environment. Rather, the citizens should have the courage to challenge the laws and try to find a solution to abolish the old laws or amend the out-dated laws. For example, it is legal for a man to have many wives only if he like or he can afford the high expenditures, but it is illegal now to do this because it violate the marriage laws. Another example, before civil war in America it is legal to have black servant, without Lincoln and many other people's effort, it might also be legal to have black servant. So the citizens should also have the responsibilities to challenge the law and amend the law continually. In conclusion, the primary responsibility of citizen is to obey the nation's civil and criminal laws, but the citizens also have the obligation to challenge and amend the laws so that the laws could serve the society better.
