Forms of comparison: Many forms follow precise constructions. Fewer refers to a specific number, whereas less than refers to a continuous quantity...

Examples:

Correct: There were fewer children in my class this year.

Wrong: There are less children in my class this year.

Correct: There was less devastation than I was told.

Wrong: There was fewer devastation than I was told.

论述和例子是不是不太一致啊，论述讲得是确切数字和连续数字，例子是可数名词和不可数名词。如果我说:My books are fewer than yours. 对不对？fewer than 也是指 continuous quantity对吗？
