reapplication cover letter

Hi All,

Does anyone here have any idea of the reapplication cover letter. What should I should I write, how long should it be? I am totally nut, can't think of anything to write since not many new things happened after I submitted my waitlist essays this March.

Hi Feixue,

I would suggest you to write about any progress in your career. Since you just submitted your waitlist essays this may, there may not be many significant progress. If this is the case, you may write something about your perceptions of an MBA, i.e., how MBA can help you succeed. This is helpful if you didn't explain your goal well last year. A friend of mine did the same thing and got in wharton.

thanks for the great tips. Do you know how long the cover letter should be, 1 page, 2 pages...? Should it be the same format as the essays, double spaced, 12 pounds?

你的学校没有要求么?象wharton要求1500字。如果不清楚的话,直接问一下学校吧。

Agree with tsljz. Different school has different policy for re-application.

FeiXue, to support the comments of Chipmunk and tsljz, I would like to give you some concrete requirements of some Bschools.

Michigan: ( FeiXue, that's the school you have got a waitinglist and are targeting at, right?)
a detailed, multi-paged cover letter that frames your reapplication and discusses what you have been doing since you last applied and how your application is stronger.  You can use the cover letter to reiterate your goals, highlight your accomplishments, discuss your reasons for Michigan, etc.  Essentially, you can use the cover letter to address whatever issues you wish.
No rewrite essays: If you find, however, that the letter is becoming unwieldy with all of this information, or if you feel you can better address things via an essay format, you are welcome to do that.  Some reapplicants only write the cover letter, others do a cover letter combined with an updated essay, etc.  If enough has changed in the time since you first applied, or if you feel your writing style in your original essays was poor, you can choose to update all of the essays.

Cover letter从其他学校对reapply的要求中看:
DUKE/Colombia—update your personal and professional activities during the past year; describing how you are a stronger candidate for admission compared to the previous year's application.;

Wharton/ UCLA-1-3pages, Describe how you have been enhanced since you last applied. Include your reasons for reapplying this year and how it relates to your short and long-term career aspirations.

Advice from Linda in BW: 1,000 WORDS.   NEED TO SAY AND HIGHLIGHT WHAT IS NEW, AND SHOW IT ENHANCES YOUR APPLICATION, CONFIRMS GOALS, MAKES YOU NEW AND IMPROVED APP.

... ...

Feixue, as a reapplicant too, I would like to say: the content is more important than the length. It really depends on what you want to say to the ADCOM.  If you have almost used up your bullets in your waitinglist essays, you could think about how you working on the problems in your feedback.(I know Michigan had offered feedbacks for last year's applicants.)

Cheer up, Feixue. You can make it!

Thanks so much for your great info, baobaobear. Unfortunately, I didn't contact UM for the feedback. Anyway, I will try my best to find something new.
