黄皮og11上说although 是连词，后接句子。查字典上写although 只作连词，而此句后接的分词短语？真是不明白为什么？

请问这里despite+v-ing 是不是和E选项although accounting for 的用法一样？都是主语与主句一致而省略了主语；只是having用错了；而且D并没有说有其他错误

有一个句子为例

我认为D项还是有逻辑主语的错误: 主句的主语是citizens, 而不是United States, 而citizens have 5 percent of the world's population讲不通.

是不是说, 这种结构里的v.+ing形式不能被视为现在分词?

又回头看了看讲although后面接从句的OG11-09题:

9.     Sunspots, vortices of gas associated with strong electromagnetic activity, are visible as dark spots on the surface of the Sun but have never been sighted on the Sun’s poles or equator.
