175. Two new studies indicate that many people become obese more due to the fact that their bodies burn calories too slowly than overeating.

(A)     due to the fact that their bodies burn calories too slowly than overeating

(B)     due to their bodies burning calories too slowly than to eating too much

(C)     because their bodies burning calories too slowly than that they are overeatersfficeffice" />

(D)     because their bodies burn calories too slowly than because they eat too much

(E)         because of their bodies burning calories too slowly than because of their eating too much

The members of a comparison (more X than Y) should be expressed in parallel form. D, the best choice, correctly uses parallel clauses introduced by because. The clauses themselves are clear and direct. Choice E uses parallel forms, but the convoluted structures are awkward and wordy. Furthermore, the word bodies would need an apostrophe (bodies') since it is the logical subject of the gerund burning (that is, it answers the question, "Whose burning?" A, B, and C do not use parallel forms for the two members of the comparison. In addition, A and B use due to unidiomatically to mean because; properly used, due to is synonymous with attributable to.(due to是形容词,只能按形容词的用法来用)

due to:as a result of : BECAUSE OF <due to the complaints of uptight parents T he lost his job Herbert Gold>

usage The objection to due to as a preposition is only a continuation of disagreements that began in the 18th century over the proper uses of owing and due. Due to is as grammatically sound as owing to, which is frequently recommended in its place. It has been and is used by reputable writers and has been recognized as standard for decades. There is no solid reason to avoid due to.

owing to: BECAUSE OF <delayed owing to a crash>

attribute to: to believe (sth) to be the result or work of.

我认为due to更接近于owing to,而与attribute to的意思相差较远,为什么OG的解释due toattributable to的同义词呢?

如果A改为due to the fact that their bodies burn calories too slowly than due to the fact that they overeat是否正确

due to 表示因果不正点,可以理解为优选结构上的排除;

这里A,B,C 中 more X than Y, XY不具有可比较性;

E 中间的这个because of 后面跟了N.+doing,怎么可以?!

due to=because of,

而attributable to=likely to have been cause by something

因此,ets为什么说due to is synonymous with attributable to?

Our declining health is more due to the polluted air than due to  the polluted water.

Our declining health is more due to the polluted air than to the polluted water.                                             省略due

Our declining health is more due to the polluted air than the polluted water.                                                  省略due to

I agree with likui and OG11 clearly explains why due to is unpreferable to because: due to the fact that uses five words to say what because does in one.
