794. The Olympic Games helped to keep peace among the pugnacious states of the Greek world in that a sacred truce was proclaimed during the festival’s month.

(B) world, proclaiming a sacred truce during the festival’s month

(C) world when they proclaimed a sacred truce for the festival month

(D) world, for a sacred truce was proclaimed during the month of the festival

(E) world by proclamation of a sacred truce that was for the month of the festival

答案在C和D之间没有定论，我选了C

我认为：（1）The Olympic Games 是单数，所以C中的they没有问题指the pugnacious states

（2）当他们为了the festival month而停火时，奥运会帮助（他们）保持了和平

（可能这个节庆月就是奥运会月，因为为了这个奥运会才停战，反过来也可以说奥运会帮助了和平）

对于D：for虽然也表达了in that因为的含义，the month of the festival看起来也是个通常被认为正确的表达方法，但是句意就变成了：因为在节庆那个月的期间里，停战协议被宣布所以奥运会帮助保持了和平（虽然停战协议宣布的时间是在那个节庆日姑且认为这个节庆月就是奥运会，但并不能说明，奥运会对和平有帮助，可能只是赶巧停战发生在那个月而已）

而且D也使用了被动语态

但是对这个when也让人晕倒，实在是纠结的心烦意乱

这只是本人的愚见，还请NN指教

the festeval month指的应该就是the Olumpic month，因为有个the在前面做特指。如果是说的一般的节庆，那就该是festeval monthes或者a festeval monthe了。因此原文的意思应该是说奥运会帮助希腊城邦保持和平，因为在奥运会的那一个月中停战协议被宣告。因此D是没有语义问题的。而C的when才是真正改变了原文语义。

OG11给出的解释关于C:They is ambiguous, possibly referring to either the states or the Games

但是the Olympic Games应该是单数吧，难道是复数？

复数没有问题吧，都加了s的了，我觉得是说历届奥运，有很多次的吧。

我觉得games这里是复数，所以they的确指代不清。
