请教GWD中几道比较迷惑的语法题

是一位学姐给的复习资料，只知道是GWD中的某一套，但是不知道是具体的哪一套。所以没办法查答案讨论帖了。

我比较菜，看了答案仍然不太明白，请各位路过的留下宝贵意见！

答案是E，我选的A。首先由主语merger可知谓语用单数，排除BCD,但是我觉得E对原文的意思改动较大，就没选。

我的疑问是，E选项的as引导的是时间状语从句吗？为什么E比较好呢？

为什么选A不选B？虽然我知道the metabolism不能跟复数谓语were,但我觉得many species of dinosaur后跟a metabolism也很怪呀。在什么情况下复数主语可以跟单数宾语呢？

答案为E。BD中them指代不对，C中抽象名词disclosure不对，A错在哪儿？是因为prohibite后面不能跟从句，还是因为using an process（单数）不能修饰companies(复数)？
