One report concludes that many schools do not have, or likely to have, enough computers to use them effectively.

(A) or
(B) nor
(C) or are
(D) nor are they
(E) nor are not

题干如果只剩下主谓宾的话应该是“many school have computers to use them efficiently”吧?如果这儿的them指的是computers的话,那正确答案D里的they不是和them指代的就不一样了么?
有哪位大神能赐教啊??

they和them在同一个句子里面可以指代不同的同喜
如果them指代的东西要和they是一样,那么应该用themself,用them的话是错误

可是貌似曼哈顿还有XDF都说过,一句话中同一代词的变形(如they, them, their)只可能指同一事物呃~

曼哈顿英文原版第237页中间部分,“Repeated pronouns are presumed to have the same antecedent. That is, every it and its in the sentence must refer to the same singular noun; every they, them, and their must refer to the same plural noun.”
亲,你怎么看?

选项D, nor are they
这里应该refers to many schools, not computers~
nor are many schools likely to have...

nor are man ...

感谢这位童鞋……但是我有问题,这题答案不是选D么?照你这么说D也有问题了?

诶= =sorry,刚刚一匆忙把C选,看成nor are了。
随后就一个劲地在那边debedebe的很开心,
谢谢更正!

但关键被你这么一说发现,就算是nor are 也是错的。。
主要是这里的结构应该是nor + helping verb + subject.。。。

they actually must refer to different antecedents; if they referred to the same antecedent, the latter would have to be "themselves" instead of "them".

analogy:
... she looked at her ... --> one woman is looking at another woman. (this sentence is not ok unless it's a component of some larger parallel structure that elucidates the pronouns, but you get the point)
... she looked at herself... --> a woman is looking at herself.
