1.      In Japan elderly people are treated with far greater respect than they are in most Western countries.

2. Once positioned in space, the Hubble Space Telescope will capture light from source twenty times fainter than those that can be detected by ground-based instruments

OG187. In one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, fought at Sharpsburg, Maryland, on September 17, 1862, four times as many Americans were killed as would later be killed on the beaches of Normandy during D-Day.

        (A)  Americans were killed as

(B)   Americans were killed than

(C)  Americans were killed than those who

(D)  more Americans were killed as there  (A)

(E)   more Americans were killed as those who

OG251. The gyrfalcon, an Arctic bird of prey, has survived a close brush with extinction; its numbers are now five times greater than when the use of DDT was sharply restricted in the early 1970's. .

(A)  extinction; its numbers are now five times greater than

(B)   extinction; its numbers are now five times more than

(C)  extinction, their numbers now fivefold what they were

(D)  extinction, now with fivefold the numbers they had

(E)   extinction, now with numbers five times greater than

2. Florida will gain another quarter-million jobs this year alone, many of them in such high-paying fields as electronics and banking, making the state’s economy far more diversified than it was ten years ago.

3. The use of chemical pesticides in this country is as extensive as it was ten years ago, if not more so.

1.      In LACE w:st="on">JapanLACE> elderly people are treated with far greater respect than they are in most Western countries.

这里补出they are是因为如果不补就会产生介词短语和介词短语比较的歧义,即with far greater respect 和in most Western countries

2. Once positioned in space, the Hubble Space Telescope will capture light from source twenty times fainter than those that can be detected by ground-based instruments

OG187. In one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, fought at Sharpsburg, Maryland, on September 17, 1862, four times as many Americans were killed as would later be killed on the beaches of LACE w:st="on">NormandyLACE> during D-Day.

。。when

2. Florida will gain another quarter-million jobs this year alone, many of them in such high-paying fields as electronics and banking, making the state’s economy far more diversified than it was ten years ago.

3. The use of chemical pesticides in this country is as extensive as it was ten years ago, if not more so.
