个人的理解：还是支持A。1、如果说A中的with结构修饰上有歧义，那D中的with结构修饰上也有歧义。2、OG中的例子：Visitors to the park have often looked up into the leafy canopy and D) seen monkeys sleeping on the branches, with arms and legs hanging（答案）like socks on a clothesline.

(跟这题很相象，所以感觉还是应该选A。

我觉得这句独立主格是修饰seen 后面的" monkeys sleeping on the branches"

我觉得这题和og那个例子有点不同. 但是我还是觉得A 好. 但是我人为KAPLIN的解释并不好.

独立主格with结构到底是修饰谁的? 主句里的subject有好几个, 如果是修饰整句好象又有点不通哦. 觉得A 中with...修饰layer 挺好的, 也不知道有没有这样的用法.

有没有关于独立主格是在句中可以怎样修饰的语法知识点(比方说是否可修饰句中一个部分,是否可修饰主语,或者是谓语动词) ?好象此结不解,这题总没有定论.

还盼望大家继续讨论, 对通过此题弄清独立主格的用法.

又找到个OG例子以及古琢NN的回复:

下面是古琢NN的解释:

The end of the eighteenth century saw the emergence of prize-stock breeding, with individual bulls and cows receiving awards, fetching unprecedented prices, and exciting enormous interest whenever they were put on show.

with是描述the emergence of prize-stock breeding

18世纪末见证了prize-stock breeding的出现，（这种出现）with.....receiving, fetching ...., and exciting .....

看来还是A好.

MARKING修饰的是COLOR。

A 中with独立主格也是修饰layers of sediment. 这点上和D 没有区别啊.

要是有例句可能好些, 但是我记得可以跟定语从句的也有例子.

突然有个想法: that 修饰color给人感觉有一部分color mark passage of time. 还有的color 不mark passage of time (og 上说了很多that 从句和现在分词修饰在范围上的区别)

marking 修饰color 表示所有的color都有这个性质.

如果说要强调是所有的color都mark passage of time like the rings, 则D 有道理.

不知道是不是这个理. NN 请进来看看.

偶开始选A,现在觉得D对了。

理由：1.定于从句省略原则with different colors that mark 没有现在分词后置定语简洁（当然这里的D选项也不是定于而是伴随状语）

2.即使不从简洁性考虑，从逻辑意思考虑，D中独立主格结构with+n.+v-ing, 表示一种伴随状态

个人观点，请指正
