请教OG SC - 42题解释

两个问题请高人指点：
1. 修饰：spawned by...修饰的词是a giant fungus还是rootlike tentacles？
我理解中一般修饰语修饰的词是其近邻的这个词（即rootlike tentacles)，但是网上有多中说法说是修饰a giant fungus.请指点。
2.平行：为什么spawned 能和extending平行?
我理解的平行是结构的平行，时态也要平行，但是为什么这里spawned能和extending平行？虽然OG说句子意思导致要用extending但是这样的话平行的语法究竟该怎么理解？请指点。

2. "spawned" [past participle] is paralleled to "extending" [present participle]. The rule is that, Adjective, past participle, and present participle can be made paralleled to each other.

1、spawned by...修饰rootlike tentacles
过去分词作定语修饰它紧邻的名词
2、过去分词和现在分词是可以平行的
在看平行的时候，不仅仅要主语结构和形式上的平行，更要注意逻辑意思的表达，这里extending表示这个动作时主动发生的，正在进行，正确
而extended表示动作时被动发生的，且已经完成，不符合逻辑，错误。

同意楼上的，平行不一定要求时态一致，这要看这道题的逻辑意思是什么，句子的逻辑表达很重要，我之前做时也错了。句子结构没把握好

2.gmat的语法要求是分词与分词平行，就是现在分词可以与过去分词平行感觉SC很看重逻辑是否准确，其次才是结构什么的

我的疑惑是：spwaned 和extending 平行修饰 tentacles讲得通，但是为什么不选择B extends, 这样extends是a giant fungus发出的动作，结构就变成了a giant fungus that is *** and extends***

这样有什么不对吗？

首先不赞同3楼的观点， spawned by.....ago是修饰fungus的，从句子本身的意思可以知道。
回答楼上：如果用extends
那么应该是a giant fungus spawned.....ago that is is an interwoven ....and extends.....,你不觉得很奇怪吗。
或者a giant fungus that is is an interwoven ....and extends.....,spawned.....ago ，也很奇怪。
因为that is an interwoven.....tentacles是对fungus外貌的描述，还用了比喻的手法（如果filligree算作比喻）；其余两项明显是对fungus怎么出身和怎么发展的描述，所以从意思上可以判断spawn 与 extend 并列。
