句子有两个谓语部分，第一个是were assumed to be，搭配主语即，bones were assumed to be the remains of giants.

句子主语any large bones ... known to be those of (bones 不是animal 所以加those)...assumed to be (bones就是remains 所以不加those).
这样看来，
D/E末尾有those of 排除
A前半句没有those 排除
B选项assume as 错排除
选C
