答案为C，我的改法 it - which. 这句话是说他给美国带来了最早的严肃的戏剧. 但为什么从句里用its? 指代什么？也许我理解的有问题。

我理解是: C用that是指前面的playwright. 后面的its是指代United States stage.

我的理解：bring A to B,但有时因为B太长，会形成bring to B A,（可以在杨鹏长难句上见到此用法），所以it充当了前句的A,又是从句的主语，故C应该为what,至于its就是United States stage's。
