Q: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
At universities and colleges, sports and social activities are just as important as classes and libraries and should receive equal financial support.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Whether sports and social activities are as important as classes and libraries to university students so that it deserves equal finacial support has become a hot debate among our society recently. When it comes to this issue, people's opinions differ from person to person, culture to culture. Those who claims sports and social activities are of equal importance point out that sports and social activities are essential skills for students' lives after their graduation. Others who think classes and libraries are much more important argure that universities are places for study only. On a personal level, I believe that the importance of sports and social activities are so crucial that universities should invest more on them.

There is no shortage of reason why sports and social activities are essential for students' lives. Head and shoulders above all others is that sports activities can improve student's performance. First of all, it is widely accepted that people who participate in sports can keep their shapes and get relaxation after stressful lectures during daytime. To name but one example, my sister Jenny who has been jogging every day since she enrolled in her university said excerising everyday would let her fresh her mind and feel more energetic to do her home work later. Her life would be very tedious if she did not do jogging. Moreover, people will also increase their efficiency after sports. A recent survey conducted by Professor Green's research group from univeristyof Sydney shows that people who regularly do sports are 30% more efficent in their work in Australia.

Another popular reason frequently cited by advocates of sports and social activities is the fact that social activities are critical to improve students' social skills. Perhaps the most convincing reason why social skills are important is that knowing how to deal with various person is important when we study at universities. When we annoyed other people due to poor social skills,it is time to ask ourselvers: isn't it better to know how to say one word without affending others? isn't it better not to disturb others while they are ennoying holidays? isn't it better not to say something sensitive to someone's religion? Having answerred those question, the importance of social skills can be self-evident. Furtheremore, companies also like students who have good social skills. In my own experience, the way things are when it comes to this issue in my home country, China, bears very strong resemblance to the circumstance From Aisa to Europe to North and South America. Employments in home city of Shenyang, to give a classic case inpoint, are priorly given to those who have participated in various social activities.

Admittedly, accademic classes are the core for the university students and there are some reasons cited bythose who insist that university should invest more on classes and libraries. Among the most convincing reasons from those people, two of them are so striking that they neeed to be addressed here. Chief among them is that academic lectures are key way of conveying knowleage to students and they need these knowleage to get a relavent job later. While it is true that academic study is important, it doesn't necessarly mean that there need to be more financial support. The investment on current level is more than enough for students to aquire knowleadge that they can degest. The other reason is that libraries need more books for some special technical field and schools should invest more money to purchase them, which seems to be an appealing idea, isn't it? However, once we look at this question insightfully, it is not easy for us to find out that universities can never meet the need of every student and buy all books available. Therefore, despite there are some reasons for universities to allocate more money to classes and libraries, they are not so reasonable that they can have any influene on our decision.

Judging from all evident offered above, we can safely come to conclusion that sports and social activities do needs equal financial support. Only in this way can we make sure that students' gain from universites are optimized. In future, I hope more and more universities will consider increasing their support for sports and social activities.

The reading passage talks about the reason why some dinosaurs survived in the Alaska's North Slope and claims the it is due to their migration to the south in the winter when tempreture is cold in Alaska's North Slope. The professor's lecture deals with the same issue. However, she challenges the opinion of the reading section. Then she uses three specific points to support her idea.

To begin with, the reading section suggests that no plants grow during the cold and dark Alaska's North Slope in winter. As a result, dinosaurs must have migrated to the south during the winter to find food. In contrary, the professor argues that the place is much warmer during the summer time and there are various and a great amount of plants during the summer season. These plants are more than enough for dinosaurs to consume in the summer and dinosaurs can continue to eat them when they are died in the winter. Obviously, the professor's argument disproves its conterpart in the reading passage.

Moreover, despite the statement of the reading section that there are many unearthed edmontosaur skeletons in herd, which proves they lived and migrated together, the professor contends that living together does necessarily means migrating together. She supports this point with the fact that the reason why some of them living together can be looking for extra protection. She also cites some animals which live together but don't migrate together.

As a final point, the author of the reading passage claim that edmonosaurs are physically capable of migrating to the south as they can run fast enough, while the professor asserts that some of them can not run fast enough to reach the southern warm area. Since these dinosaurs that can not run quickly also survived through winter, they must have known a way to survive without migrating to the south.

In conclusion, the professor clearly identifies the weaknesses in the reading passage and convincingly shows that the central arguement in the reading passage, which is the dinosaurs migrated to the sourth in the winter to survive, is incorrect.

To improve the quality of education, universities should spend more money on slaries for university professors.

Whether it is a good idea to increase the salaries of university professors in order to improve the quality of education has become a hot debate in our society recently. When it comes to this issue, people's opinions differ from person to person, culture to culture. Some people who support this idea claim that professors will motivate to offer better lectures by doing so, while others argure that there are many more area that universities should invest money in. On a personal level, I believe that universities really should consider investment in other areas like sports and libraries rather than increasing professors' salaries.

There is no shortage of reasons, as far as I can see, why it is important for universities to spend money on many other areas which are also very important to their students. Head and shoulders above all others is the investment in sports activities. First of all, sports activities are of great significance to the students' lives and doing sports can help students to work more efficient on their work. To name but one example, my sister Jenny who has been jogging everyday since she has bagun her college life said doing physical exercise not only can keep her in good shape and increase her self-confidence, but also make her work much effectively when doing her homework after jogging. In addition, according to the recent survey conducted by Prof. Green's research group from University of Sydney, there more than 30% of the universities in Australia do not have enough of various sports facilities to meet the need of their students. This result confirms the importance of the investment in the sports activities.

Another area of investment, which are frequently cited by the opponent who are against increasing professors' salaries, is improving the libraries service. Perhaps the most convincing reason raised by those people is the fact that there are many student who want to have a look at recently published books, journals and magazines are not able to get them from libraries due to the shortage of the funding in libraries. When we meet this situation, it is time to ask ourselves: isn't it helpful to get those recent technical articles from libraries? isn't it too expensive to purchase them by ourselves? isn't it a right choice to invest more in libraries? Having answered those questions, a better way of investment can be self-evident.

Judging from all evident offered above, we can safely come to conclusion that increasing the salaries of professors is not a optimum choice of improving the quality of university education and there are many more areas that need investment badly. Only spending money in many other needed area in a better way can we ensure that the optimum benefits of the students.
