My question is,

Whether "legitimate subjects for literature and portray them" is also the right answer. (The "to" before "portray" is omitted.)

个人理解不算错，但由于中间有太多的东东，为了清晰起见（更清晰地显示AND后面的东东与谁并列），还是应该加上TO。
