请问一下 rival 得用法？还有， make sth +sth ,能解释d选项么，谢谢！

A，B，C，必错，不说

   E中which is the rival of的表达是unidiomatic的,类似的定语从句应该简化

   例如：a habit which is good 肯定不对，应该是a good habit

   至于make sth +sth 这个用法肯定没问题，但是只看这个用法，就会忽视which is the rival of的错误。

   另外，make sth as sth有没有这个用法，我不知道，请教牛人，或者这里还有什么奥妙？

   rival的用法只知道rival for
   如She and I are rivals for the swimming prize.
      Ships can't rival planes for speed.

不是make sth as sth的用法，而是make sth sth的用法，只不过这里的as group插入到sth sth之间，是为了强调letters作为一个组...

E从语法上来说并不错误
关键是从句子意思上来理解。powers使letters（作为一个group）成为其他novels的rival。而不是powers使letters成为一个group（此group是其他novels的rival）。
