OG11(黄皮)里的错误?

在631页上:

Correct: Jose Canseco is still a feared batter, most pitchers don't want to face him.
Incorrect: Jose Canseco is still a feared batter most pitchers don't want to fact him.

I think both are wrong. 第一句怎么能没有连词只用豆号呢??

还有一个题,也是很不解,比较类似 (page 661, question #4):

A
survey by the National Council of Churches showed that in 1986 there
were 20736 female ministers, almost 9 percent of the nation's clergy,
double the figure for 1977.

又是用逗号来连接两个主谓都全的独立句子.而且这里用"figure for 1977", 我觉着应该是"figure in 1977"来和前面的"20736 in 1986"来平衡.

1. '631页是讲run-on sentences' ? in my E-book, it's on page of 633. 应该是分号.

1. double the figure = the phrase of a noun,

"double" in this sentence is not a verb, but a predeterminer.

2. there is no such a choice

as "doubling the figure in 1980", which is grammatically correct , too. however, double the figure for 1980 is better than doubling the figure in 1980.

let's take a look the usage of "double": double can be an adjective, a noun, a verb, an adverb and a predeterminer. 有5种词性. in this sentence, "double" is a predeterminer"

3. double : predeterminer

twice as big, twice as much, or twice as many

double the amount/number/size etc

We'll need double this amount for eight people.

The value of the house is double what it was.

4. your sentence, "Tom said that last year he had $2000, almost 10% of the family's savings, double the figure for 1980.", is correct.
