OG46

46.  To Josephine Baker, Paris was her home long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, and she remained in France during the Second World War as a performer and an intelligence agent for the Resistance.

(B) For Josephine Baker, long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, Paris was her home.

(C) Josephine Baker made Paris her home long before to be an expatriate was fashionable.

(D) Long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, Josephine Baker made Paris her home.

(E) Long before it was fashionable being an expatriate, Paris was home to Josephine Baker.

答案是D, 这里的 it 的逻辑主语是什么?不应该指代主句主语Josephine Baker吗?

it 在这里是形式主语。指的是“fashionable to be an expatriate”,not JB

yun...

I think it should be refer to Paris.

但是我不太理解Long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, Josephine Baker made Paris her home, and she remained in France during the Second World War as a performer and an intelligence agent for the Resistance.

我觉得从简洁角度she应该省略,所以第一时间排除了D. 我选得B,思路如前述,找另一个从句主语与she不同。

Help,thanks.

IMO:

it在从句中是形式主语,真正的主语是to be an expatriate,打回原形就是to be an expatriate was fashionable

sorry.I am wrong. "it" should refer to "to be an expatriate."

But I still have questions about the explaination about Q46 from ETS:

This compound sentence(consisting of two independent clauses joined by the coordination conjunction and) would be most clearly expressed if Josephine Baker were the subject of the first clause since she is the subject of the second clause: Josephine Baker made Paris her home would clearly parallel she remained in France. The adverb clause long expatriate is best placed before the main clause.

B. For Josephine Baker...her is redundant and awkward; putting two introductory elements together before the main clause is awkward.

Here I still think that it is better to omit "she" to keep the sentence concise. Please help explain the highlight parts. Thank you.

it是paris.

JB made paris her home, long before it was fashionable to be ...

cannot omit "she", unless also omit "and".

还是不明白这道题目到底该怎么解释~

另外我觉得d答案把时间提前,是不是有重心转移的嫌疑?

望指点~谢谢~
