答案:b 这里不明白theater前面为什么不加the?

我是觉得off...theater前面应该有the. 因为可数名词不能单独存在.

单数名词不是说一定要加the,而是要有限定词！这题应该是for ->since。

Yes, the mistake of "for " is obvious.
What is curious is the phrase "in off-Broadway theater".
Since "off-Broadway" means all others that are not of the typical Broadway style, "off-Broad" is just a simple adj, which should not rule out the necessity of either a determiner, like "the", or a plural form for the noun "theater".

Sorry, I'm wrong.
1. A search with yahoo.com reveals plenty of examples of "off-Broadway theater", all in singular form.
2. (from my dictionary)
[uncountable]
a) ="plays" as a form of entertainment
I enjoy theater and swimming.

单数名词不能单独存在，前面要有限定词。就象：beijing city， my book 等，都可以的。
不明白你说的 “。。。怎么解释”？

No, you still need a determiner like a/the/my ,just as Jeff2003 said.
