那d不能这么理解吗？之前nn也说这个size 和area 是可以比较的，那d问题出在哪里？

个人看法，这里的but only 4 million in population,看成是插入结构。

因为如果看成主语及相同动词(has)省略。那么这个表达 Laos has only 4 million in population肯定是unidiomatic的。

这里更合理的解释是作为一个 “无动词分句”，相当于a book in hand一类结构，也是独立主格的一种。用来修饰Laos。但是这样问题就更大，修饰对象Laos和其修饰词像个太远了。当中还有一个Britain。这种混乱的修饰是gmat不能容忍的。

Laos has only 4 million in population类似于 I have 4 dollars in money.好awkward阿。

- C不會造成run-on sentence, 因為句子結構是: Laos has a land area..., but in Laos..., many of them are members....
- "but"用在句子並列時不要求絶對的平衡, let's look at some examples:

prep2-29: No longer do many cities in the United States have a river as the focal point of urban life, but in San Antonio the river winds through the middle of the business district, and the River Walk, or Paseo del Rio, is the city's most popular attraction.

多谢指出这个问题。也同意but并不要求绝对平衡。

这里并不是说but要求绝对平衡，但针对一个特定的题的考点来说，5个选项进行比较，要靠哪个主考点来判断呢？

不过此题如果不用平行来判断，我上面的分析的主要思路就错了。

请指出合适的方式进行排除。
