这里难道costly同时修饰irrigation and application

2）In C, only irrigation--not both irrigation and fertilization--is clearly associated with the earlier... varieties of rice.
为何不可以是requirements for application of (commercial fertilizer and irrigation) of earlier high-yielding varieties

这里难道costly同时修饰irrigation and application 不错，ETS比较强调结构上尽量的完全的平行，所以如果有一个a.+n.的结构，后面的平行结构一般也要求用a.+n.结构，除非如此题，两个名词的修饰形容词相同，则省略一个。

为何不可以是requirements for application of (commercial fertilizer and irrigation) of earlier high-yielding varieties C的可参与平行的名词太多了，以至无法清楚区分，当然，你括号内的说法的确正确，但是，无法排除将requirements和irrigation建立平行的可能，所以，C表达不如E明确。

C也可以这样子吗：requirements for （application of commercial fertilizer）and for （irrigation）of earlier high-yielding varieties省略斜体介词for。

另外这样of earlier high-yielding varieties可以跳跃修饰requirements而不会修饰application...and irrigation吗？

如果没有歧义的话，如果想表达第一种意思是不是应该改成irrigation of ... and application of ...？

irrigate在美国传统词典的英英释义中这样说：To supply (dry land) with water by means of....,还有：To make fertile or vital as if by watering，不及物动词，例：To supply land with water artificially（人工灌溉：给土地人工浇水）
