DescriptionThe NYU Stern Marketing Department seeks a highly skilled and motivated individual for a full-time Research Scholar position for a period of one year.
The Research Scholar will work with faculty members at NYU Stern’s Marketing Department. The research projects are at the boundary between Business Analytics/Quantitative Marketing/Experimental Social Psychology/Behavioral Economics and Industrial Organization.
The topics include:
- Digital Marketing
- Pricing
- Consumer choice and search behaviors
- Large scale field experiments
- Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence applications in Marketing/Advertising (Natural language processing, Computer vision, Multimedia, Reinforcement Learning)
-Consumer psychology
The research projects utilize
(i) high-dimensional data that record transactions, prices, offline and online advertising, and other marketing interventions
(ii) unstructured data such as Instagram photos, consumer reviews, livestream shopping videos, voice search spectrogram.
(iii) web content development, scraping data from websites, model simulations, audio and video manipulations, Java script integration on Qualtrics. The work requires strong data science skills to scrape, prepare, maintain, manipulate, and analyze the data. The Research Scholar will also conduct extensive statistical analyses.

A successful applicant will not only perform assigned tasks, but eventually develop increasing levels of independent thinking and creativity.
The ideal candidate will have
(i) a bachelor's degree or higher in a field relevant to the research (e.g. Economics, Statistics, Marketing, Finance, Computer Science, Mathematics, Operations Research, Machine Learning, Physics, etc.)
(ii) a minimum of one year of relevant research experience required—experience gained in school counts towards this requirement;
(iii) proficiency in Python, R, Stata, Matlab, Sas, or C/C++/Java, is desirable
Preferred for all candidates:
- Ability to work under tight timelines while juggling multiple priorities
- Knowledge of basic statistical methods and tools a plus
- Previous experience with academic research and statistical programming a plus
- Previous experience with web content development, CSS, scraping data from websites, model simulations, audio and video manipulations, Java script integration on Qualtrics
- Previous experience with AWS or other cloud architectures a plus
The Research Scholar will start September 1, 2022.
