原句：Peoplethat are well-informed know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most famous export is the wine which bears its name
改正后的句子为：Well-informed people know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most famous export is the wine that bears its name.
其中让我很不解的地方在于，它把修饰the wine的定从引导词由which改成了that
manhattan是这样解释的：The context of this sentence calls for an essential clause to modify the wine, since the point of the clause is to identify the wine. If the sentence ended with the wine, it would be incomplete. The clause should therefore begin with that rather than which。
但我仍然不太明白这段解释里的逻辑关系。为何修饰the wine的定从要改为that引导的呢？这其中是有什么语法知识吗？

我尝试回答一下，我觉得这里有两个点。 1）【修饰】essential modifier vs non-essential modifier，essential modifier为“定义性信息”，需要由that 引导，擦出后句子意思就不完整了。non-essential modifier为“补充信息”，需由which主导，擦除后不影响句子意思。这里是essential modifier，所以要用that引导。 2）【句意】为什么这里是essential modifier呢？我的理解上有个the，特指wine，意为“这种wine”，需要一个essential modifier来说明是怎样的wine，所以要用essential modifier来定义这种wine。综上两点，
如果用which，non-essential modifier擦除后，句子就变成：Well-informed people know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most famous export is the wine，
如果用that，essential modifier没法擦除，句子就是 Well-informed people know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most famous export is the wine that bears its name.

P.S.1 我在另外一个帖也看到了这题的讨论，我觉得这个答案也不错，贴这里给你参考。那层主要意思是that/which的用法因为有点争议，所以这个不会是绝对语法考点，可以通过其它splits来判断。
