Thank you! This is a question only you can answer, as it involves financial consideration, personal preference, and a deferral option. You run the risk of not getting into more highly ranked French programs. Can we predict if you will get in or not? No. So I would go with your instinct as to how to proceed. Ultimately, where you go doesn't matter as much as your ability to network and secure your future position from the program in which you enroll.
