Answer:A , i choose C

Is it because "capability of the respiratory system in dealing with" in C is more complicate than "the respiratory system’s ability to deal with" in A?

capability to do/of doing, C选项的用法错误，the capability of the respiratory system in dealing, capability in doing 的用法错误，可以直接排除

from what 中what后面所接的是一个名词性从句，eg.What worries me is how we're going to pay for all this. what引导的名词性从句做主语

这里what指代的是a dinosaur which appears to have been the second most massive dinosaur that ever lived

E.paleontologists have found huge fossil bones, which are from what appear to be,应该使用appears,如果是你打字错误的话就忽略不计好了，呵呵

D. birds overcome by pollution routinely fell from the sky above Los Angeles freeways, prompting officials in California to devise a plan to reduce 红色部分做的是伴随状语，伴随状语可以表示结果，所表达的意思就和原句一样了
E. birds overcome by pollution and routinely falling from the sky above Los Angeles freeways were prompting officials in California to devise a plan to reduce 首先用进行时是相当之诡异啊，prompt是一个瞬间动词,其次birds做主语，所表达的句子的意思就错了，没有一个因果关系，不是鸟prompt officials to~~,而是birds overcome by pollution routinely fell from the sky above Los Angeles freeways 这样一个事实prompt,这个可以参考一下prep的解释，在哪里想不起来了

先看一下原句所要表达的句子的含义，原句中的this希望指代的是先前所陈述的一个事实

在不违背原句的含义下来比较一下d,e两个选项，哪一个更改变句子中心

还是解释得不大清楚，将就看吧，呵呵
