Hi Guys,

I keep on getting those two questions wrong every time I review SC. I don't quite understand the explanations provided by the book. Could you share your brains and intelligence ? Thanks a million

204. In recent years, cattle breeders have increasingly used crossbreeding, in part that their steers should acquire certain characteristics and partly because crossbreeding is said to provide hybrid vigor.
A. same,
B. in part for the acquisition of certain characteristics in their steers,
C. partly because of their steers acquiring certain characteristics
D. partly because certain characteristics should be acquired by their steers,
E. partly to acquire certain characteristics in their steers

The correct answer is E, but i keep on choosing D. The reason I chose D is because of observing parallel structure, I don't know why i am wrong ^_^

205, The peaks of a mountain range, acting like rocks in a streambed, produce ripples in the air flowing over them; the resulting flow pattern, with crests and troughs that remain stationary although the air that forms them is moving rapidly , are known as 'stranding waves'.
A. Same
B. Crests and troughs that remain stationary although they are formed by rapidly moving air, are

D. Stationary crests and the air that forms them is moving rapidly, are
E. stationary crests and troughs although they are formed by rapidly moving air, is

The correct answer is C. I keep on choosing E, which i think is more precise, i am wrong again ^_^

我是新手，我觉得第一题的CD中的THEIR指代不明
第二题中的E选项中的stationary指代是crests，而实际要指代的是troughs
不知道对不对，看看别人有什么看法

我是这样理解第204的意思，主要要考and之间的平行
未划线部分可以简化为 partly..... to provide
根据and连接两个平行的句子，只要找到 partly... to do and partly... to do 的平行结构就好
