[求助]comma+verbing的用法？

看ron说comma+verbing的话verbing修饰的应该是前面主句的动作，并且主句的主语和verbing是直接关系。
但是我看到了这两道题目
In the past several years, astronomers have detected more than 80 massive planets, （most of them as large or larger than Jupiter, which circle other stars. ）
正确答案：most of them at least as large as Jupiter, circling
这样说来的话那么circling不就是修饰的astronomer嘛？就直接杀掉了，请问comma +verbing是还有什么其他的用法嘛》

中間, most of them at least as large as Jupiter, 我視為同位語,如果樓主看法不同的話應該至少認同modifier,所以省略後要不影響原意

拿掉modifier後(記得雙逗點一起拿掉)->
... astronomers have detected more than 80 massive planet circling other stars.
看出circling修飾planets
所以並非在comma+verbing的用法範圍裡

同学，所以, most of them at least as large as Jupiter, 中的两个逗号连同内容因为是同位语的关系等同于是不存在的是吗？

common, v-ing , 我归纳了几点:
1.common v-ing,做副词修饰。所谓副词修饰，就是修饰前面的动作，这个就是你提到的。
但是也可以修饰前面的整句话，这里有2个方面:
1. 前面那句话的动作和后面的ving是同时进行的。这个很好理解。
2. 前面的整句话，直接导致了ving的发生。这个我发现一般在选项中会有thereby提示词。比如prep中有一题说是什么某船泄漏石油，thereby polluting 污染海洋什么的。这个pollute其实是指整个某船泄漏石油这件事情引起的直接结果。
