Kaplan一道题疑问 SC

不知道CD上有没有用Kaplan的题，碰到一道SC但是有些小细节没想通，求教各位

第一次做的时候秒排CDE，自己在时态方面比较薄弱，其实AB也可以轻易选出A的。
想请问B中的apparently修饰的成分是什么？是前半段句子吗？如果将B的"was thought"改成"is thought"，B选项是否可行？

经常会纠结这种问题，虽然看了答案说了这个答案是错的，但是会经常问自己，我把这里改一改是不是就正确了？感觉这种强迫改错的思维也导致我的SC一直没提升。
